Half a century since the first James Bond movie was released, UK broadcaster Sky is set to launch a tribute channel to the 007 franchise.
The new channel titled Sky Movies 007 will be start in October in both standard and high definition, The Daily Telegraph reports. Apart from screening all 22 Bond films released, the channel will also show programs related to the famed spy series.
Since 1974 all the television rights for the Bond franchise in Britain have been owned by ITV. After 38 years Sky purchased the rights to all the Bond films, including two independents, Never Say Never Again and Casino Royale. All the channel’s content will also be available to viewers through the network’s online services.
However the new 007 channel set to broadcast round-the-clock will not be there for long. Sky Movies 007 will broadcast for one month from October 5 until November 4, becoming Sky’s next temporary project.
Over the month the channel will show all Bond films in order starting with the very first of them, Dr No released 50 years ago.
"We're delighted that our customers will have the best Bond movie-watching experience ever with Sky Movies – uninterrupted, in HD, on demand and on the go," Director of Sky Movies told The Daily Telegraph.
The James Bond series about the British Secret agent has become one of the longest running in film history. Over five decades Mr. Bond has been portrayed by such stars as Sean Connery, Roger Moor, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.
The next 23rd Bond movie will be premiered in the fall of 2012.
