Chennai is set to get its first celebrity-driven home shopping TV channel, with entrepreneur Raj Kundra, Co-Owner of Rajasthan Royals; bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and Tamil actor Chiyaan Vikram partnering to launch Big Deal TV.

The channel, set to go on air from June 18, will be a 24x7 channel available free of cost across all cable as well as DTH platforms across the State, and online.

According to a release by the company, India’s home shopping market is currently valued at ₹40 billion, and is expected to grow five times by 2020. It will be the company’s second launch after Best Deal TV, a 24x7 hindi home shopping channel launched earlier in March.

Unveiling the channel , Kundra, founder of Best Deal TV Group Companies, said, “We are pleased to launch our second channel within just six months of being on air.”

Kundra added that the products will be the company’s own, not available on any other platform, and that the company has strong customer grievance redressal processes in place as well.

When asked if the company is a direct competition to e-commerce platforms that facilitate home shopping, Kundra said that the company doesn’t intend to be a competition, but rather offer its own products to customers.

“There is no competition with e-commerce platforms at all,” Kundra said. Speaking at the event, Chiyaan Vikram said, “It is a pleasure to be associated with Akshay Kumar and Raj Kundra. I found the concept a great one, and believe it will do well here.”
